Southeastern Film Critics Association Winners

Beating the New York Critics Circle to the punch, the SFCA has given out their winners for the year, and they're an interesting bunch. While their top 10 holds no surprises whatsoever, there's two things worth noting. First is best actress, where Natalie Portman won, with Jennifer Lawrence in second place. Lawrence has been picking up speed lately, and even though she hasn't won as many critics awards as Portman (this is at least her third over the past two days), she's appeared as Runner Up a few times. More importantly, she's faring better than Annette Bening, who might actually be *gasp* fading from the race. Granted, the Globes will certainly be a boost for The Kids Are All Right, but with Julianne Moore really starting to vanish and with Bening not dominating the critics awards (or at least rivaling Portman) like she was supposed to, one wonders if the hype over Bening may have peaked too soon. Of course, when it comes to acting awards, critics don't necessarily have too much sway over who AMPAS picks for the win (2009 Best Actress, anyone?).

Supporting Actress is another increasingly interesting category. True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld picked up her first award of the season, and something tells me this won't be the last one she receives. She's been runner-up and nominated in a few other critics awards, so obviously the performance is generally going over well. The Supporting Actress race seems to be headed towards a 3-way race among Melissa Leo, Steinfeld, and Jacki Weaver, with Leo's co-star Amy Adams not far behind.
