2007 ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS!!!!

It's official...2007 is the Year of the Shocker(s)

Best Picture
"Atonement"
"Juno"
"Michael Clayton"
"No Country for Old Men"
"There Will Be Blood"

JUNO!!!!! A great lineup! I don't think Michael Clayton or Atonement deserve to be there, but at least this year I ACTUALLY LIKE ALL THE NOMINEES! I would've preferred Sweeney Todd in there, but THANK GOD THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY GOT SNUBBED!! AHAHAHAHA! And in other news: I couldn't feel more proud about being one of the VERY FEW people to predict that Into the Wild wouldn't get nominated. I trusted my instinct, and I was RIGHT! GAH!

Actor
George Clooney, "Michael Clayton"
Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood"
Johnny Depp, "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street"
Tommy Lee Jones, "In the Valley of Elah"
Viggo Mortensen, "Eastern Promises"

TOMMY FREAKIN' LEE JONES!!! His chances had been dead for this (incredible) performance. A delightful surprise and an incredibly DESERVED nomination. The entire lineup is PERFECT except for one....Clooney...grrrrrrrrrrrrr..

Actress
Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
Julie Christie, "Away From Her"
Marion Cotillard, "La Vie en Rose"
Laura Linney, "The Savages"
Ellen Page, "Juno"

well, Blanchett got in over Bonham Carter and Amy Adams, but...hello now...2 shockers in one category! LAURA LINNEY??? NO ANGELINA JOLIE? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS!!!!

Supporting Actor
Casey Affleck, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"
Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men"
Hal Holbrook, "Into the Wild"
Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Charlie Wilson's War"
Tom Wilkinson, "Michael Clayton"

great, but PSH is a surprise......just please PLEASE don't give it to Holbrook....

Supporting Actress
Cate Blanchett, "I'm Not There"
Ruby Dee, "American Gangster"
Saoirse Ronan, "Atonement"
Amy Ryan, "Gone Baby Gone"
Tilda Swinton, "Michael Clayton"

oh COME ON. Ruby Dee? Pathetic. I like the rest however (it's nice to finally be able to call Tilda Swinton an Oscar nominee).

Director
Julian Schnabel, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"
Jason Reitman, "Juno"
Tony Gilroy, "Michael Clayton"
Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"
Paul Thomas Anderson, "There Will Be Blood"

Schnabel and Tony Gilroy get in over Tim Burton, Joe Wright, David Fincher, and others? Woe.....and where in the hell did Jason Reitman come from? To quote his film: "WHOA! Dream BIG!!"

Original Score
"Atonement," Dario Marianelli
"The Kite Runner," Alberto Iglesias
"Michael Clayton," James Newton Howard
"Ratatouille," Michael Giacchino
"3:10 to Yuma," Marco Beltrami

poor Jonny Greenwood. He should be on this list. *sigh* Marco Beltrami is a nice surprise though...

Costume
"Across the Universe"
"Atonement"
"Elizabeth: The Golden Age"

Academy Award Nominated film "Norbit"? So very very VERY wrong...

"Meme Les Pigeons Vont au Paradis (Even Pigeons Go to Heaven)"
"My Love (Moya Lyubov)"
"Peter & the Wolf"
advertisement
Live Action Short Film
"At Night"

"Tanghi Argentini"
"The Tonto Woman"

Visual Effects
"The Golden Compass"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"
"Transformers"

Golden Compass again!! All three of these are extremely deserving, but I thought Compass' sucky American box office would hurt it. Nice to see AMPAS didn't let numbers get in there way...
