GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS!!!

be warned, there be shockers here...(nominees listed alphabetically)

Best Picture: Drama (why are there SEVEN nominees???)
American Gangster
Atonement
Eastern Promises
The Great Debaters
Michael Clayton
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood

Eastern Promises is surprising, but The Great Debaters is jaw-dropping( and sickening). Either it's really damn good, or Oprah Winfrey bribed the Hollywood Foreign Press (...or both..)

Best Picture: Comedy or Musical
Across the Universe
Charlie Wilson's War
Hairspray
Juno
Sweeney Todd

Across the Universe.....WOW. Everything else was predictable...

Lead Actor: Drama
George Clooney - Michael Clayton
Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood
James McAvoy - Atonement
Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises
Denzel Washington - American Gangster

Tommy Lee Jones is now officially out of the race, but yay for Viggo Mortensen!! The Front Runner: Daniel Day-Lewis. Close Behind: Clooney, McAvoy. The Dark Horse: Mortensen

Lead Actress: Drama
Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie - Away From her
Jodie Foster - The Brave One
Angelina Jolie - A Mighty Heart
Keira Knightley - Atonement

my predictions were 100% right!! Though that's not such a good thing since Jolie got in. Front Runner: Julie Christie. Close Behind: Knightley and Jolie. The Dark Horse: Jodie Foster

Lead Actor: Comedy or Musical
Johnny Depp - Sweeney Todd
Ryan Gosling - Lars and the Real Girl
Tom Hanks - Charlie Wilson's War
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - The Savages
John C. Reilly - Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

again my predictions were 100% right!!! congrats to Depp. Gosling is also a WONDERFUL surprise. The Front Runner: Depp. Close Behind: Tom Hanks, Hoffman. The Dark Horses: Reilly or Gosling

Lead Actress: Comedy or Musical
Amy Adams - Enchanted
Nikki Blonsky - Hairspray
Helena Bonham Carter - Sweeney Todd
Marion Cotillard - La Vie En Rose
Ellen Page - Juno

they picked Blonsky over Laura Linney, Nicole Kidman, and Keri Russell? Seriously? Oh well, I'm fine with the rest (and I don't hate Nikki, but those other 3 seemed so much more likely). The Front Runner: Marion. Close Behind: Page, Adams. Dark Horse: Bonham Carter

Supporting Actor:
Casey Affleck - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Javier Bardem - No Country For Old Men
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Charlie Wilson's War
John Travolta - Hairspray
Tom Wilkinson - Michael Clayton

Travolta is a huge surprise. Glad to see my top 3 (Affleck, Bardem, Wilkinson) are still running strong. And no Hal Holbrook! YES!!! The Front Runner: Javier Bardem. Close Behind: Affleck, Wilkinson. The Dark Horse: Hoffman

Supporting Actress:
Cate Blanchett - I'm Not There
Julia Roberts - Charlie Wilson's War
Saoirse Ronan - Atonement
Amy Ryan - Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton - Michael Clayton

save for one or two slots (Julie Roberts is a shocker!!) I think we can conclude that the Supp. Actress race is pretty much settled. Now it's just a matter of picking a winner. Front Runner: Amy Ryan. Close Behind: Blanchett, Ronan. The Dark Horse: Swinton (WOO!!)

Best Director:
Tim Burton - Sweeney Todd
Joel and Ethan Coen - No Country For Old Men
Julian Schnabel - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Ridley Scott - American Gangster
Joe Wright - Atonement

Burton got in!! The HFPA hasn't been friendly to him over the past so they either want to kiss and make up, or they thought he made a damn good film. Ridley Scott is an interesting (and not terribly good) choice. His direction was the weakest aspect of the film.... The Front Runner: The Coens. Close Behind: Schnabel, Wright, Burton. The Dark Horse:....none really.

Best Screenplay (all together, no adapted/original here...)
Atonement
Charlie Wilson's War
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Juno
No Country For Old Men

Best Original Song:
Enchanted: That's How You Know
Grace is Gone: Grace is Gone
Into the Wild: Guaranteed
Love in the Time of Cholera: Despedida
Walk Hard: Walk Hard

that song from Enchanted rules, as does Despedida. I've heard the songs from Walk Hard are actually pretty good despite their silliness/raunchiness. Please, just don't give it to Into the Wild....and where is "Once" for christ's sake!?

Original Score
Dario Marianelli - Atonement
Howard Shore - Eastern Promises
Clint Eastwood - Grace is Gone
Eddie Vedder, Michael Brook - Into the Wild
Alberto Iglesias - The Kite Runner

not a Desplat score to be found? Shame. Also surprising is the lack of nomination for There Will Be Blood's Jonny Greenwood. I assumed he was a lock. And once again, the Pirates of the Caribbean music has been ignored...

Best Animated Film:
Bee Movie
Ratatouille
The Simpsons Movie

hahahaha. Nothing for Beowulf. Hopefully it'll go to the Simpsons...bah, who am I kidding. Congratulations Ratatouille. But where is Persepolis...oh wait...down here...

Foreign Language Film
4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 days
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The Kite Runner
Lust, Caution
Persepolis.

Front Runner: Diving Bell. Close Behind: Kite Runner, Persepolis. Dark Horse: Lust, Caution. I can't believe Once and Waitress got completely snubbed (and everyone promoting the hell out of Jennifer Jason-Leigh should probably be embarrassed...). The awards will air on January 13th.....DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN...(hey, maybe 8-time nominee Johnny Depp will FINALLY WIN AN DAMN AWARD!!!)
