Who got a boost?:
  • Richard Jenkins for Best Actor.
  • Benicio Del Toro for Best Actor (although it probably won't amount to much).
  • Michelle Williams for Best Actress (again, the chances of this turning into an Oscar nod are still slim).
  • Eddie Marsan for Best Supporting Actor. He's been gaining steam lately.
  • In Bruges for Best Original Screenplay. This is becoming the little movie that could, especially after it was released in the awards-buzz-killer month of February.
  • WALL-E for Best Picture. Could this be the year when an animated film finally breaks into the Best Picture bracket (not including Beauty and the Beast, which was nominated years before the Animated Film award was created)?
Who got snubbed?:
  • Revolutionary Road. Even though Michael Shannon made it into the lineup, he's barely made his mark anywhere else. Winslet is obviously a strong contender for Best Actress, but the film as a whole, DiCaprio, and Mendes' direction seem to be getting left in the dust.
  • Milk for Best Picture/Director. The film and Gus Van Sant, and even the supporting cast are starting to lose steam, and the majority of support really seems to be for Penn, and not the whole movie.
