Who got a boost?:
  • Darren Aronofsky for Best Director.
  • Slumdog Millionaire for Best Picture. First Danny Boyle was able to win Best Director when Slumdog lost best Picture, and now the film is winning without Boyle winning anything.
  • Penelope Cruz for Best Supporting Actress. She was starting to lag behind some of her competition (mainly Marisa Tomei), but she hasn't run out of steam yet.
  • Meryl Streep for Best Actress.
  • The Wrestler for best original screenplay.
Who got snubbed?:
  • Revolutionary Road in all categories.
