Who got a boost?:
- Sally Hawkins. As of this point, she actually has the most Best Actress awards out of any contender.
- Cruz and Ledger in the supporting categories. A few more awards, and they might become virtual locks.
- In Bruges
- Tropic Thunder. Talk about a slap in the face to traditional Oscar fare to name a comedy as having the Best Ensemble Cast. The folks who worked on Doubt must be furious.
- Slumdog Millionaire AND WALL-E for Best Picture.
- Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke for Best Actor. They've become co-front-runners.
- Gus Van Sant for Best Director. The Globe snub was a major roadblock, but apparently he's not out of the race yet.
- Let the Right One In for Foreign Language Film
- Man on Wire for Best Documentary
- Revolutionary Road: all categories
- Doubt: all categories
- Australia: all categories (the fact that it has yet to win a cinematography award astounds me)
- Gran Torino: all categories
- The Reader: all categories
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: all categories
- Waltz With Bashir for Best Documentary
- Changeling: all categories
