Yesterday the first trailer debuted for Matt Reeves' remake of the excellent Swedish vampire flick Let the Right One In (2008). When I first heard about this, I was sort of pissed off. There was absolutely no need for this remake, which did a great job of making a gritty, modern vampire tale (and by "gritty," I mean that they don't sparkle). That said, however...this actually looks pretty decent. Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) have proven themselves as capable child actors in rather mature material. So even though I don't think there's any way for Reeves to top the fantastic original, there's hope for this film to be that rare American remake that actually succeeds on its terms. Let's just hope the grunge-y trailer music isn't anything like the film's score, however. This isn't some torture-porn, Hostel BS.
