apparently the film version of The Golden Compass will end three chapters before the book does (which is a bit of a letdown, considering that some great stuff is at the end) . It's strange because the scenes from those final chapters appear in the trailer. In the link posted below, director Chris Weitz reveals that the last 3 chapters will be moved to the beginning of the 2nd film, if it is made, in order to give TGC a more satisfying conclusion as a film. I won't lie; I am kind of disappointed, considering that the cliffhanger of TGC was simply amazing. However, Weitz does have a point that, like Lord of the Rings, this is really one story split into three books (and remember, parts of the Two Towers were moved to Return of the King and it worked really well). I disagree with Weitz, however, on the point that ending it 3 chapters earlier would make a more satisfying conclusion. Despite being a HUGE cliffhanger, the end of TGC in the book was both satisfying, and left you desperate to see what happened next. This hasn't diminished my excitement for the film if the ending is properly handled, but it's been such a long wait for this adaptation, and I just really wanted to see those final 3 chapters on screen sooner rather than later.
