Spread the word (and the video)

Back in November I was lucky enough to participate in my school's Lip Dub (even got my name in the credits!/First under "Grip and Electric"), which we hope to make the most viewed on Youtube (the current champion has around 6 million views). We put a lot of hours into this and it looks great. So, at the risk of sounding like I'm begging, watch the video, like it, and forward it to everyone you know, even if they don't even know what Emerson College is.

I am very glad, indeed, I am linking home...

What is this I can't I don't even...

Why use April Fool's Day to post some obnoxious, fake SUPER GOOD/BAD movie or celebrity news, when I can just show you a cat "singing"? If you're lost as to the reference, go here.

My 2009 Movie Mash-Up

It's not perfect, mostly due to some repeated footage, long pieces of Nine footage, and at least one awkward audio transition, but still, I'm proud of it (and unbelievably thankful that the weird issues in Final Cut Pro were somehow fixed after uploading the file to Youtube). There are a number of films not featured in this montage that I wanted to put in here, either for the entirety (Up), or just for a performance (Julia), but sadly, a down-loadable Quicktime trailer wasn't available. Enjoy...

Overlooked by the Academy?

Some of us think so...

Okay, that might be a bit much, but those scenes in the movie theater are PRICELESS. It's a shame Regina Hall can't seem to find her way into better comedies...she's got such great timing.

Video of the Week: The Soup spoofs cooking and weight loss shows

One of several new installments I have planned for this blog, now that my sidebar of favorite sites is relieving some of the pressure that came with trying to report on every significant news headline out of Hollywood. If you come here for that sort of stuff, don't worry, there will still be news articles, (see the post below), but they won't dominate this blog any more, giving me more room to, well, have some fun with this site. Our first Video of the Week winner comes from the always reliable pop culture satire "The Soup", hosted by the very funny Joel McHale. Mr. McHale also has a TV show starting soon called "Community", and while it has potential (the pilot was made available on Facebook) let's hope that if it succeeds, Joel will still have time for "The Soup".

Matt Damon goes political without making an ass of himself

If Hollywood big shots are going to talk about politics, THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do it: with eloquence, logic, and with a calm temper. Sean Penn, please take notes on this; you could learn a lot from Mr. Damon's example (and by the way, I'm someone who's a political moderate with slight leanings to the RIGHT, and I think Damon is spot on).

In case you've forgotten about this little piece of insanity...

Now you'll have it painfully etched into your brain for all eternity:

Don't call Julianne Moore a "lady"...

This is a scene from Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 film "Magnolia" (which I have never seen). In a recent poll of sorts on a website, a person asked what everyone thought was the most unintentionally funny scene of 1999. The voting process has yet to end, but after seeing a clip on youtube, I think we've got a winner (or would that be "loser"?):

It's the "WRONG!" that really gets me....

Marion Cotillard's BAFTA speech

a bit redundant, but it's nice to hear a genuine speech once and a while. That dress is.........well...bizarre, but other than that she looks great. Let's hope the Academy feels the same way about Best Actress!!!

Amy Winehouse wins 5 Grammys!!!!

here's Amy's performance via satellite from London from Sunday's ceremony. A little shaky (nerves + pressure of her personal life) but overall she did a good job AND she brought the beehive back!

and here she is winning Record of the Year:

she also collected 4 other awards(making her the night's biggest winner): Best New Artist, Song of the Year (Rehab), Best Pop Album(Back to Black), and Best Female Pop Vocal

Angelina Jolie's "Oscar scene"

at least when Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Hudson screamed it had an impact and felt authentic and haunting. This is almost funny....

two of the most visually stunning scenes in film history..

from 2006's The Fountain. Don't worry about trying to understand what's going on. The film was a metaphysical muddle anyway (though I kind of liked it). Just enjoy the visual splendor..
