Quick thoughts on "The Ghost Writer"


- If there's one thing Roman Polanski knows how to do, it's frame his shots. There were any number of moments when the combination of close-ups and wide or mid-shots had me on edge, waiting for something or someone to go "boo!"

- Why doesn't Oliva Williams get more work? She was really good here, and also in 09 Best Picture nominee An Education (as Jenny's teacher).

- Kim Cattrall trying to do a British accent is, erm, not a good thing.

- Pierce Brosnan is capable of doing more than just James Bond. Nice.

- Ewan McGregor is constantly walking a fine line between being appropriately subdued and being a non-entity.

- That letter-passing sequence was flat-out stunning.

- The more I think about it, the more interesting this film becomes. Then I think about it some more, and spots of it also make less sense.

- Bottom Line: not perfect, but it would be nice if there were more thrillers like this (ie: not built on "jump" moments).
